WEATHER
July to September is normally the summer high season for hiking in the Swiss Alps. However, there were three late snow storms in June of 2013 that resulted in more snow than usual, and certainly much more snow that we were expecting or had experience dealing with.
Day time highs were generally in the 70s-80s in the valleys and 60s-70s near the top of passes. Night time lows were probably in the 40s-50s depending on elevation, i.e., very pleasant hiking temperatures. We encountered fog and sustained rain during the second day of our trip, a brief period of sleet on one other day, and some afternoon thunderstorms during the second half of our trip as the weather gradually warmed up into mid-July. Proper rain attire was essential.
