LODGING

We were on the Arctic Circle Trail for 11 days and 10 nights, staying in primitive huts for 6 nights and camped for 4 nights. Most of the huts were the size of a large shed and could accommodate 3-6 people. A couple of the huts were more spacious and had “toilets” employing large heavy duty trash bags. Needless to say, none of the huts had running water or electricity.  The huts could not be reserved in advance and were all first-come, first-serve. We had the company of fellow hikers on some nights and had the hut all to ourselves on a couple occassions.

The terrain was mostly flat, so it was easy to find suitable locations to pitch our tent when we had to camp. Short arctic shrubs and moss made the ground very comfortable and soft to sleep on.

Before embarking on the trek we camped next to the airport at Kangerlussuaq. After completing the trek we stayed at the hostel in Sisimiut.
